big end bearing gone..what is best change on place or take out the engine?

Hi all..
these spring i figure out that most probably the big end bearings on one con rod was gone
"the piston dropped 2 mm when i pushed it down trough the sprak plug hole.."
so now ill like to know what is the best /easiest solution
can i change the bearing on place "is the big end nearest the drivers side"
or will it it easier to take out the engine and do these with a it upside down in a engine holder "i have all the equipemt"

looked at differens sites about taking put engine and it doesn seems to be that hard..
also if the engine is gone and i need a new one half the job will be already done..

If there is that much play I'd suggest that you need to get the crankshaft reground.

Good engines are only around 200 here i would have thought they were no more expensive elsewhere or get one shipped over.

With that much movement your oil pressure should be through the floor, the engine banging like Colin Flooks (Cozy Powell) on speed and all other engine components are now suspect. That is not a fix in situ repair it is replacement engine.

It is not a crank regrind either as 2mm = 80thou. even if the movement was half that it is still 40 thou and that is more than any regrind will take care of.
