My GT JTD Engine has died and won't start!
On tuesday night I Was driving along a dual carriageway and the engine suddenly seemed to lose power.
It then came back and then started over-revving really badly without me pressing the accelerator. I switched it off as soon as I realised I didn’t have control and then there was lots of smoke out the engine bay and the exhaust. I then coasted to a stop.
Once I had stopped I opened the bonnet and there was oil all over the engine. I took a day off work yesterday and had a look. The only thing I could see that was wrong was an oil breather pipe that popped off just behind the engine. I reconnected it (although didn't seem to lock in properly) and filled the car with oil. I then tried jump starting it (the hazards wore down the battery whilst I was wating for the recovery truck) but it just wouldn’t bite.
It turns over well but it would only fire one or two cylinders every couple of seconds. It did say on the dash there was a glow plug error but that surely that shouldn’t stop it from starting in this weather?!?! Checked the ECU errors with Torque, but nothing other than the turbo over-boost that had been happening before (it had been getting better and had not happened for ages).
I know fuel was getting through to the engine as when trying to turn it over smoke was coming out the exhaust.
Does anyone have any ideas what could be the problem or what I can do to eliminate some things?
