Wave Turbo Advice

Morning All,

I hope all have managed to bring there Alfa to life today.......

Just a bit of advice, Im currently fault finding on my 156 2.4 JTD- I've recently had a bit of a mare with it and decided to solve all problems I can do.

One that is bugging me is a slight hesitation on the turbo- I had an issue with the EGR valve which has been solved but been reading about the Upper and Lower turbo hoses and VGT? Hoses-

Im going to strip all off over the next week and check (Upper and Lower) for issues and replace (VGT) where needed-

Really just want to know if there is anything else I can do / clean with regards to the Turbo whilst im messing- A mechanic friend is helping me but he is "unskilled" in the Alfa ways!! I dont really want to be removing it if I can help it but if there are any I can get to easily that would be good-

I keep finding loads of useful instruction books on here, more of the same would be helpful!!

I hope the AA arrive promptly......

You do not say where the hesitation is happening so i will post this anyway just incase it helps. I have just been through the whole egr, map sensor, manifold problems on mine and it now runs really well, but one thing it gained after the egr was changed was a hesitation around 2-2.5k rpm. After lots of headscratching i decided to try the modified egr gasket, when i removed the egr to replace the gasket it was very obvious they had reused the old gasket and was leaking badly. New gasket fitted hesitation gone and one very happy bunny.

Best advice I can give you is to: check the integrity of ALL turbo hoses, large AND small. Replace if not absolutely certain, then make sure the piston moves freely in the vacuum unit, if not, treat the turbo to a clean out with the innotec kit and or replace the small vac sensor switch on the back of the bonnet slam panel and ensure the egr valve is not filled with crud, finally injector no three might not be entirely happy, but the best thing to do is take her to a dealer/ specialist and get her diagnostics read. It may well provide a definite answer, removing the need to open your wallet and say "help yourself!!" good luck. Hope that helps. Cheerio, Captain Boogaloo.
