Re: drove an M3 today
As an ex-M3 owner, it is nice to finally hear a few nice things about BMWs on this forum! The M3 is an AMAZING car with room for 4 plus luggage (one of the reasons I bought one instead of a 911), and one of the best handling and braking cars I've ever driven, but you also have to consider that an M3 costs almost twice as much as a 147GTA, and doesn't look half as good (IMHO). The carbon fiber-roofed CSL is an even more extreme version of this car, but is astronimically more expensive.
Can't wait to see the new V8 M3 that is due out next year - BMW's M-division is just amazing (look at the new V10 M5 or M6 for proof) - as much as I love my GTA, the one thing that might bring me back to the BMW fold despite their recent butt-ugly Chris Bangle designs, is that all M-cars have 100% BMW designed and produced engines, whereas my current GTA looks to be the last Alfa-produced engine. I hate GM, and am completely turned off to the fact that future GTAs will have GM-produced engines under the hoods.
At least for now, however, I am delighting in one of the best GTA cars Alfa has ever produced, and am able to enjoy it for less than the price of a fully loaded BMW 120i, much less a mighty M3!. M3s are great, but in a completely different price category than our humble GTAs.
