Was this low mileage 156 V6 the dark blue for sale at Vision Auto in Auckland?
If so I should confess I put down a deposit for it a couple of days ago.
Had to be quick - I got back from the test drive and four others turned up wanting to do the same!
But to answer the follow on question -in my opinion formed from various research:
The V6 coupled with manual or Q system seems to be the most reliable form for the 156. Its obviously the better performer in the sense of maintenance/power/smoothness. But my god - the sound!!!! - how it sings
When comparing the larger engine option, I only really noticed a slight handling difference at low maneuvering speeds. The V6 weight up front is still reassured with rigidity and stableness at motorway speeds. It is also obvious to me that the manual trans is capable of extracting the power better than the Q system. However my partner prefers auto - so Q system got the tick.
One thing that is reiterated everywhere is to avoid the sele speed. Or you'll
The twin spark may prove a good choice but higher mileage examples reportly tend to use oil (I couldnt find a low mileage example anyways).
However interesting the revised version/JTS is problematic in the sense that it suffers from its um "upgraded?" design, tends to clogs itself with carbon/gradual but significant reduction in power until requiring something short of a rebuild far to early in its life.
The 156 is certainly a nice and effortless car to drive - all the while I'm under no delusions that it'll still be an expensive car to maintain irregardless of the mileage.
Good luck with your search I sincerely hope you find a good one
