Bose are American. They have been making specialist car audio since 1983. They were the originator of custom hifi for cars, te original ICE. Before Bose there was car radio and 8 track. They revolutionised audio in cars by taking a scientific approach to getting the best sound in a car.
They are not built on the cheap, that's completely ignorant crap.
I'm no fanboy, though. I wouldn't touch a Bose system in a home setting, but in car audio they are extremely good - world leaders.
You won't be able to buy anything remotely as good for 100 quid. It is matched at a component level with the interior of the 147. Unless you are a sound engineer, you won't get anywhere near the sound.
Your 2 ohm red herring is just that - irrelevant. Most car audio is 4 ohm, most home audio is 8 ohm. It bears no relevance to the quality of the sound and has all to do with environment.
Half the recent What Hi Fi winners used coaxial speakers. Again, there is nothing about coaxial that has anything to do with quality - it's more expensive and more difficult to make them, but is done for packaging reasons.
Sorry I don't think I was meant to write Bose there. But Fli and Vibe are based in Birmingham not Bose.
And yes the Bose is made to a price. You only have to look at it to figure that out. In the Alfa!
The ohm is a red herring to produce more volume rather than quality. Its an easier way to give volume. Its also a marketing ploy really to help shift the units as an upgrade to say its been matched to the interior of the Alfa's.
Think about it. The doors on a 3/5 door are different on the 147. Speakers are in different positions. They also come in leather and textile seats. Again changing sound acoustics.
Coaxial again yes doesn't mean quality or inferior quality. But the positioning of speakers does. Especially in a car. High frequencies it do matter - Coaxial will be bouncing high frequesncies off your legs. It matters less in so with low frequencies.
I also said if you can get the Bose for £50 then go for it. However if its going to cost £200 you can probably get a small amp and all the bits to have better sound quality than the Bose offers.
I'm not saying Bose is utter ****e. What I am saying is that what's offered as the Bose upgrade in Alfa's isn't what I'd call brilliant or class leading.
But thanks for your informative post about everything that's irrelevant to the original poster. Over 3 years ago.
