EGR or not that is the question
Right story so far, purchased new car a very nice 147 1.9jtd Q2 Sport and everything fine for 2 weeks and about 1500 miles, then on the way to work lost all power, still running but worse than gutless. AA came out and identified cause as egr valve, garage i bought car from fitted new EGR and all seemed fine. Did about 60 miles no problem then next morning on way to work it happened again, but this time it would lose power then it would cut back in, it did this half a dozen times until it stayed gutless. Returned car into garage and they found new EGR to have some tight spots, they sorted those out and car seemed fine.
Car lasted a couple of days and then as i was accelerating up a hill, the revs hit just over 4K rpm and it lit up like a christmas tree, engine light on with fault code P0237. Restarted car and engine light stayed on but car ran fine, back to garage for further investigation. They tried cleaning map sensor but it still gave same fault at around 4000 rpm even with a new map sensor fitted. After serveral runs with someone in passenger seat with a laptop logging data as fault happened, it was showing massive over boost at 4000 rpm so it was decided to get car back in to remove inlet manifold and clean it out, they also replaced the turbo boost valve (i think thats what they called it). Car now runs great now well apart from one little hiccup, before EGR was replaced it was smooth in all gears but with new one fitted it has a hesitation between 2000-2500rpm in 1st and 2nd sometimes 3rd but any other gear is smooth, it seems to get less as car warms up. It only happens when you try and hold the revs steady but will drive straight through problem area no problem.
I am thinking this is still an EGR problem and have done quite a bit of reading on this and it seems to be a common complaint on a wide variety of cars after EGR was replaced. Anybody any ideas how i can rid myself of this problem, its not major but i know its there and its a bit like a scab you gotta pick at it.
