147 8v JTD Motor Control System Failure & EGR
I’ve recently fitted an EGR blanking plate with the hole drilled through the middle. After fitting it totally cured the excessive black smoke I’d been getting and it felt better to drive.
However, now, a few weeks later I’ve started to get the MCSF message appearing under hard acceleration of heavy loading in 3rd & 4th gear. This is also accompanied by black smoke on occasions.
The car will drive through the MCSF message in 3rd ie it will flash the message up and then disappear. When it appears in 4th at around 3k revs it seems to cut the power at that point and no further acceleration is possible. Very embarrassing when overtaking up hill – a feat it never struggled with before.
I had believed that the fitting of the plate on an 8v would have no impact sensor wise and for the first few weeks it was fine. Is this just coincidence and what else could be causing the problem?
I do intend to clean out the EGR soon to see if that makes a difference.
Any help appreciated.
