Went through the MOT today (well, yesterday now, this is what working nights does to you) received the handbrake cables around lunctime on Tues but the Olympics was far too interesting.
So tackled the cables Wed afternoon. Not too sure now whether it was ever the cable at fault, once under there I could, by hand, get far more movement on the OS handbrake arm than the NS.
So, I removed the OS caliper and gave a squirt or two of WD40 under the piston boot. Operated the brake pedal by hand to push the piston out then wound it back in, did this a few times to make sure the piston was moving freely and smoothly. Put it all back together and the movement on the arm was now the same as the NS.
Handbrake is now nice and tight and have a brand new MOT.
TOP TIP,when removing the handbrake gaitor (which you will to get at the adjuster) prise it out from the rear. The tab on the front edge of the gaitor base is bigger and hooks further under the centre console...and I've now broken the front tab...FFS!
All the best
