Whining, Whistle and Engine Management Light
Just a quick bit of advice needed please-
I have a 2001 2.4 JTD Alfa 156- The motor has recently developed a whistling/whining noise coming from the engine bay- I have tried to narrow the noise down but in truth am struggling.
I experience no loss of power, there is no smoke coming from the exhaust and in general terms the car drives okay. The noise is there when in neutral and revs are put through and also under load- It is most noticable between 1500 - 2500 rpm after which point it seems to quieten down a touch although it is still there-
Now here is the kicker- After a recent battery change the engine management light comes on intermittantly- I have taken it to my local garage however when the light is off there is nothing showing on the diag and as there is no logic as to when it appears timing a trip to the garage is a problem-
When the light is on I occasionaly have reduced power under the turbo line but no issue when the turbo kicks in- Again this is intermitant and if I start the car from cold and the light stays on I have power- I honestly cant get my head around it!!!
Could the two be related?
I've been told- Aircon unit, Water Pump, Aux Belts all to be checked however im worred it could be the turbo or something relating to it.
Has anyone else had anything like this at all?
