Wisps of blue smoke.
Thoughts on the following if you please.
My GT has just passed its first MOT under my ownership. Not without issues though. I was watching on as the car was tested. Whilst they were doing mech checks I was watching them check emissions (used loosely) on a 320d BMW. I was surprised to see they were using a device which looked a bit like a boom box of yesteryear. It transpires they use a emissions/smoke analyser in the MOT for diesels. I had no idea.
Anyway this made me notice that my GT was puffing out wispy blue smoke, the BMW wasn't. Then it was my car's turn. He revved it a few times.
The car failed, though not on emissions or smoke but a bottom balljoint rubber boot failure. I organised for it to go back in yesterday [Thursday] for repair. They fixed; it passed. Anyway I asked them about the smoke, they like me said it was unusual to see so much, one of them commented how it makes your eyes smart, it does as I have noticed this previously but having little experience of tractors I didn't know.
He said it passed with incredibly low emissions (whatever that means on a tractor). I don't (and they agreed) believe it should smoke like it does.
I have checked it once or twice today and after running on the road and stopping it all looks quite clear but after about 2 or 3 minutes the wisps of acrid smoke appear. I cleaned my EGR valve a few months back but I think it needs it doing again as I had it loose power a little while back (maybe it's knackered). I also noticed last year when replacing my lower turbo hose some oil in the old one.
Could it be the EGR? Could be a turbo on it's way out? Car feels OK and performance seems OK, though not the sudden rush you get on say a VAG diesel. Sure at about 2k you feel a little rush and then it seems to have a good power band.
Priorities I find, are usually someone else's.
Statements above are all my own opinion and not fact.
