I was hoping someone might be able to identify the cause of the following engine whine on my V6 GT:
Sound recorded from the engine bay near the cam-belt with the bonnet open. It has appeared suddenly, and varies with engine rpm's; when in the cab, it's only really noticeable above 2,000rpm and below 4,500-5,000rpm when the regular engine noise overwhelms it.
I've searched, read, viewed and listened to all other threads on similar whines and can't quite say I've heard something identical. Based on age & mileage (2006, 61,000miles), folks seem to think it's the water pump. The cam-belt was changed by the previous owner on 52,000miles (which didn't include a pump change).
Backstory: I hadn't driven the car in 3 weeks, in that time the council moved it across the road due to suspended parking, and it wouldn't start when I tried. A buddy came to jump start it and I noticed the whine then. Could this mean the whine is coming from the alternator?
Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!
