Losing coolant.

Evening chaps, Just been for a day out to sunny wales when on the way i noticed the engine temp creeping up, it got to about 110 and i pulled over in the services and noticed the coolant reservoir was dry, topped up about 1 - 1.5l of water and preceeded on my way with no problems, just got home and checked again and found it had used about 3/4 of a litre just coming 60 miles. No signs of mayo in the oil and no leaks i can see. Any ideas? been fine till this morning.

Forgot to mention its a 1.9 jtd 156

Could be the head gasket has just gone/hairline fracture and its burning the water away in the piston bores. Or a hairline crack somewhere thats letting the water seep into the engine. I had this happen with a car of mine a few years ago and it run fine and apart from using water had no other symptoms . Needles to say I part x'd it in for another car pretty quick at a garage lol. Could always take it into a garage to get them to check it over for you ? Does it start ok when its been left to cool? .. Also try running with the expansion cap off and see if it still uses it as much

More likely to be a very corroded rad core .. they usually only last 6-7 years ... at best!

They go between the rad and a/c condenser so it's always hard to spot any wet bits ...

Car is now 7 years old so i guess that would make sense, any way of telling if it is that? car starts fine when cooled, mate said it could be an air lock making it use more second time but it does not explain why it used it to begin with.
