I have to disagree with you there. I have a 156 Selespeed (2L TS) and while she was in the bodyshop a while ago I had a 2L Zetec Mundano. I found it to be a very able car (better handling than mine until I recently got the RHB handling kit) and almost as fast. But the interior looked like a Fritz Lang plastic spaceship and the engine sounded like a bag of flamin' spanners. Suggest you have your ears syringed!
Yes, but the difference was, unlike Alfa, Ford make two types of Zetec's, without their customers knowing. The all alloy 1.25 (which was what I had), the 1.4 and 1.6 were made by Yamaha, not by Ford and they were noted as some of the 4cyl finest engines around. They were known as the Zetec-SE series. Most notably from the press and myself, the 1.25 was an absolute scorcher. It may have only had 75PS (which is still not bad for this capacity), but the power delivery was outstanding, not to mention the refinement and sound.
All fords do not have particulaly appealing interiors IMO and the quality of the plastics are not very good in some cases, like the Mondy and Focus. My little Fiesta though I absolutely loved (see pictures). I never had a single rattle in all the 48k miles had did with her and she was very very well made. Very sad to see her go really. The 147 is great, but the Fiesta (I am going to get loads of criotisism here do doubt) gave me as many smiles as I to with the Alfa. Trouble is the Alfa cost over twice what the Fiesta did and was it worth it.....the only difference IMO is the looks department. Whilst it looked OK, it was still just a humble Fiesta when all said and done. Now the Alfa...well I do not really need to say any more really do I? The good thing is, the Alfa has given me more or less the same satisfaction as the Fiesta, so at least its not worse like owners have found.
The Mondy's and some Focuses have a home grown Ford engine's which were alloy heads only were not very advanced....they were just O.K and never really good much appreciation by anyone. Anyway, better stop as I am getting a little off topic - I should be talking about Alfa's!
