2.0jts oil type & consumption question...

Hi guys , awaiting an owners handbook being delivered , but had my JTS for about 5 weeks now , and not done many miles , but it's taken a couple of litres so far of 10-40 , but I see it's really needing 10w60 , fill 10-60 reduce its consumption ?, or it just usual for the JTS to use a steady regular amount , coz when i do its oil change im gonna order 10 litres i think !!
thanks in advance

10w60 should reduce your consumption by a fairly decent amount. And it's the correct spec for the engine.

JTS oil comsumption

I bought my JTS just over 12 months ago and the first thing I did was to change the oil, dispite the fact that it had recently been done. Like you I did not have a book so I used 10w 40. The car does not get used much so on a trip from Chester down to Wells and then the running about I used a little oil, bought some 20w 50 from Halfords to top up. As best I can recall I have not put any oil in until an oil change for my trip over to Le Mans. Changed the oil for Mobile 1 10w 60. After driving for 500+ miles all 0n motorway at about 4000+ rpm in one dash except for a boat crossing I have put in about .75 of a litre to top up. I cannot makeup my mind if that is good or bad, my other Alfa's have hardly used any oil at all. I will say that I have never had much success with Mobile, I usually use Valvoline but was pursued by a pal to use the stuff (note to self never again).
I will keep a close eye on the return to see how it goes.
If I come back that is.

10w60 is the correct oil - 10w40 is arguably acceptable but at the very least consumption will be higher and unless you do very regular checks you are at risk of running it low.

In my experience consumption varies based on the driving style and probably a random factor in there too. Selenia seems to be consumed quicker than say Castrol Edge.

1 litre every 1000kms is regarded as acceptable.
