Selespeed (shock) Misbehaving
Hi, Hope somebody can help.
After my 2001 147 has been left in first (I live on a hill), I go to drop it into neutral to start the engine but dash indicator stays on 1, I hear a clunking noise and by releasing the brake find that it's gone into neutral, however the dashboard indicator stays in first and won't allow me to start the engine. No amount of shutting everything down and leaving the car or disconnecting the battery for varying amounts of time, will induce it to reset. This problem happens roughly every six to eight months
I have the free version of FiatECUScan but this only lets me operate individual gears and does not make any difference to the problem. The selespeed actuator and pump where new about 5000 miles ago and the oil is the correct level.
The upshot is that the car is effectively dead, so I have to get it recovered to my garage. He then runs his diagnostic software on it, this runs through a set of tests where it selects all the gears several times and records any faults, following this he tells me that it finds no faults and the system seems to be okay again, so I drive it away and its fine for another six months or so, then it will go again.
My questions are firstly any general suggestions to cure this, secondly before I spend the money would a replacement ECU make any difference, or would the full registered version of FiatECUScan have any effect. I could live with having to plug my computer in any time it sticks.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions,
