I've no doubt the GT with the 1.9jtdm engine is a superb drive (had the same engine in a late 156) but the GT/147/156 range needs constant attention. My 147 and 156 needed (between them), wishbones at regular intervals, a turbo (at 31K miles!!), radiator, alternator (£500 fitted), power steering pipework (£250 at 3yrs old!!), broken door handles, electric windows that failed, a failed EGR, oh and a variator on the 147. Just look at the forums for some idea of the problems. I must have been mad for sticking with Alfa for so many years, but I've went there again with a 159 2.0 ti. Hopefully the lack of problems on the forum reflect better reliabiliy. The car does not give the same 'kick in the back' that the 1.9jtdm did, but is much better in 4th and 5th gear, pulls like a train!!
The 159 in Ti form still gets the comments attributed to Alfas by envious BMW drivers, is a much more refined drive, and is a nice place to be. Perhaps I'm getting old, being a Hawkwind fan lol
The function of man is to live, not to exist. I shall not waste my days trying to prolong them. I shall use my time.
