156 2.0JTS Sportwagon - Self levelling 'Nivomats' ???? (Rear Shockers)

Can anyone help
Do you know if the above are height adjustable ?
Recently had an 'indie' subject the car to rear shockers replacement and to my horror car seems "extremely hard" and 'higher' at the rear than normal. Overnight the car seems to settle and rest down a few cm's. After driving for 3 to 4km it seems to rise up again (pardon the term) at rear and become extremely uncomfortable and hard. Not pleasant to drive
Any idea what can be the problem ???
What has happened.....??
