Steering really light, car like Im driving on ice?

Hi everyone,
A few days ago I noticed that the steering on my TS Lusso had become incredibly light, feels like almost no resistance in the wheel at all. The car also feels like its driving on ice, especially round corners,Ive had a chat with the garage who think it may be the speed sensor? Can anyone tell me how much this is likely to cost to fix,and also if it may be another problem? The moment the guy said the parts are from Alfa only my heart sank as I just know its going to be costly!
Thanks for your help

Have you checked the tyre pressures recently?

There is no speed sensor in the 147 steering system! Suggest you check tyres first then look at the regional forum for your area to find a local Alfa specialist who will be able to give a more accurate diagnosis. Suspect, if not tyres, it could be power steering pump or steering rack neither of which should be ridiculously expensive. Let us know how you get on.

If it has gone really light, like you can turn the wheel with one finger it could be you have a rack or power steering pump fault. Which is causing you to get maximum assistance all of the time.

Could it be that there is air in the system? could try steering from lock to lock 4 or 5 times, cant hurt do do this really, also have you checked the fluid level?

as david c said, check tyre pressure, with this humid heat we're having lately the pressure may have gone up, should be about 32psi based on a 16" wheel, but you may need to check your tyre specification.
