Hi guys, been a while since I first posted this, but I've uprooted and moved away for work and then my mate managed to loose the keys to my toolboxes with all my gear in (and my multimeter). Anywho thats all sorted now so I've started looking through trying to find the fault.
A mate pointed out to me that my brake lights wern't working either so I started to think the problem was probably something simple to do with that as the ABS/VDC is of course all connected to brakes.
I took the car to the Autolusso open day last month and had it diagnostic checked (Thanks Guys), a fault code came up for a faulty brake switch. I purchased a new on and changed it when I got home, sadly didn't solve the problem, since checked the old switch and both switches inside work propperly.
I have finally traced this problem to the power supply to the switch, the switch connects at both ends to the Junction box beside the steering wheel, if I disconnect the plug and connect up the pins that the switch would usually plug into the lights come on, there is power getting to the Junction box, and continuity between the Junction box and the switch on the switched side, but no continuity between the junction box and the powered side of the switch. Therefore I believe there to be a break in the wire (Orange) between Pin 14 Connector B1D (Junction Box) and Pin 1 Connector I30 (Brake pedal switch).
Could anyone recomend a good auto electrician around the Brackley Area? (Northants, Buckinghamshire or Oxfordshire), don't fancy cutting my loom up myself especially considering that the pins in the plugs don't look simple to get out.
The other problem was with the Oil Pressure sensor, I am also making some progress with that. I didn't notice until it got a little darker but the lights on my right binical (instrument cluster) have stopped working, I never tended to look much at the rev counter if I'm honest, but when I noticed it wasn't lit up I realised it was also not counting revs, the warning lights in the binicle still work. I've had it out and realised that there should be a switched live to it, all the other lives and the earth work (eLearns documents seem to be wrong as it indicates the earth and switched live is on the B connector not the A connector, but it looks to me like its on the A connector). I have found that the swtiched live doesn't appear to work, whilst looking at the diagram I also noticed that the Oil Pressure sensor connects directly to this instrument, on starting the engine with the instrument disconnected I didn't get the warning, so presumably the signal goes through this instrument to the central display unit. I haven't been able to trace the switched live just yet, but I'm hoping that this not working is what is causing the rev counter not to light up, dial not to move, and the oil pressure warning.
Anyone know where this goes to?
Thanks for the help and sorry its taken me so long to update the situation.
