I realise this is another selespeed problem thread, but it's my first day of owning the car, so I'm a bit down to be honest.
I bought a 2004 Alfa GT with 63,000 k's on the clock. Had it checked out by an Alfa specialist before and apart from a couple of things, the thought it was great. I specifically asked about the selespeed and was told it had been looked after and had the right oil etc, so looked good.
I bought the car today, and driving it home from work I got the dreaded "Selespeed System Failure" message. Here is what happened:
1. Was driving in City mode
2. Parked at lights, went into neutral, decided to try the manual mode but didn't click "City" again to turn it off, just moved it up a gear, got the warning
3. Car drove fine (in city and manual) from there, but warning came on every 3-4 minutes
4. Checked fluid when I got home, seems fine
5. Failure message comes on when you first turn car on, during the inital check, but then disappears and car drives fine (took it for a quick spin)
I'm going to see if the Alfa specialist can look at it tomorrow, but really hoping it's nothing big (as it is changing gears fine, and driving well, in all modes). Spoke to the previous owner, he said it slipped into neutral and had that warning in November and Alfa replaced a part (he forgets what) for around $800.
Sorry for the wall of text. I bought the car with my heart as I have always loved the looks, and I absolutely love it, just gutted to have this happen the day I bought it
Any assistance/insight anyone can offer would be most appreciated...
