As my 147 has been a wee bit lethargic low down the rev range of late - and a bit smokey - I thought I'd have a go at cleaning out the EGR.
Although I had an idea of what work was necessary, the process was made a whole lot simpler by using the excellent guide I downloaded in the 'how to' thread http://www.alfaowner.com/Forum/alfa-...tructions.html
This made the process relatively painless and it really is a simple task for anyone with the right tools to do at home.
I was lucky, the spring loaded valve moved easily and smoothly so I elected not to drill out the back of the section.
However, the rest of it was absolutely caked in soot - there was tonnes of crap. One tin of carb cleaner later, a two hour soak in some petrol, some more carb cleaner and some furious scrubbing with a toothbrush saw the whole thing gleaming.
Re-assembled and put back in the car the results were immediate.
Engine is so much smoother, no black smoke and generally 'willing' again.
An excellent result and a job made a whole lot easier with the guide - cheers
Next job..... change lower intercooler pipe
oh... and 'recharge' the K&N panel filter.
