I just went for a spin and made a few observations. Firstly, power steering fluid looks clean but I think is a bit low, its the red stuff, should it be green? Secondly, it is light but not that light, tried to drive with 1 finger but not possible, nearly crashed! The last post was interesting, I don't think its a faulty steering pump, it seems OK, sounds like could be steering rack as it doesn't get heavier as speed increases which is when it makes me nervous, its OK below 50mph. Its not really bad or really scarey but say on a back road and doing 60, then drop a gear to overtake, can feel a bit "loose and unsteady" maybe its not the steering rack at all, there has been no work done to any suspension at rear at all and its 6 years old and 56k miles? Also as mentioned no work on front or rear arb either. Just noticed a very unusual noise though, reversing up my drive which is on a slight hill and had windows open, when I revved her and starting moving backwards from stationary, was a loud metal clanking noise from underneith heard it before doing the same sort of manouver but just dismissed it as nothing, could something be loose causing this light sensitive and unsteady steering?
