If you keep the "pedal to the metal" then economy is out the window.
But as I'm not really keen on a speeding ticket, and want to keep the petrol costs under control, I've been a lot less "lead-footed" recently, just to see what the old girl can do ..
Bear in mind, she's 13 1/2 years old and done over 170000 miles now. The engine was rebuild at 82K (crank regrind, shells, rings, bore honed), plus new valves at 73K. Plugs are overdue replacement by ... too much .. about 30K!!!
New lambda about 7K ago, and MAF is about 18 months old (so about 18K). Regular oil and filter changes and cambelt last replaced at 160K. Tyres up to specified pressure or just over 2.3/2.4 (but well worn and due a change too!). And no a/c ... leak in pipe after having it recharged!!
Drive back from Grimsby, via A roads and bits of motorways, keeping as close to the max as poss .. not too much traffic and not booting it away from lights, but a couple of "squirts" to get past slower moving "middle-lane" hogs and those tw@ts in trucks with speedlimiters trying to overtake another truck on same limiter speed (doh!) ... then back down to max (and across to inside lane!) ...
........ 38 MPG ...
Around town and faster use about a year ago and I was getting 28-29!
Believe it or not, I'm enjoying the drives now as well!!! Only took 15 mins more to get home than it would on M18/M1/M40 via either M69/A46 or A43. And less worries about being sideswiped by a LHD artic too!
