I have always believed in obtaining a *great* brake before doing amy power mods. Any car can do 100mph in a straight line but to stop *in control* from that speed is a major feat.
Before buying any new upgrade pads or disc's my next project is improving the current brakes. I am doing this as i'm sure there is underlying issue with either the calipers/master clyinder/hoses/abs sensors etc... all all the above.
I have noticed that the drivers side front wheel is doing more braking than the passengers front wheel. Under normal braking the car pulls to the right & then the pedal start shuddering.... ABS kicking in. When i push the pedal harder then the passengers wheel seems to become more effective. I have a nice sized lawn with many Firestone skid marks on it to prove my theory. Each *test* show the drivers side to drag grass/stones before the passengers side. On a car without abs & without a passenger it should be the passenger side that locks up 1st as that side it *lighter*
Does anyone know how to de-activate the ABS system?
I realise this *pulling* to one side could also be an ABS brake sensor issue as the driver side will always go into ABS mode before the passenegrs side. But i've learned one thing since buy the car ..... *back to basics* before chasiNg *wild goose* theory's
1st: I'll remove all 4 wheels, 4 calipers, hoses & discs. The calipers i'll make sure they are oprerating freely, as i have seen *other* maufactuers calipers semi-sieze up. By stripping them & cleaning up they work much better.
2nd : I am going to inspect all hosing to ensure there are no defect....... knowing this car i'll most likely have to replace all4 hoses..... Goodrich ???
3: I'll grind down the *lip* of each disc. This *lip* could be causing the pads to *float around too much.
4: I'll try to determine if any of the discs are warped. The fronts are vented & the rears are solid. Its not un-commom for either type to warp from city/harsh braking
5. I'll re-fit all the calipers & hosing & then replace the existing brake fluid. I bought 2 litres of DOT4 syntheic fluid today. I'll flush out the old stuff with one litre or so & then use the other litre to finish the process.
6. Test drive, hope for an improvement.
