alfa 156 strange
hi all, after owning my 2004 sportwagon for 3 weeks my G.F rang me to to say our car was running a little rough and there was a reading "motor system control failure" when she started it it up, she left the car where it was and waited for me to have a look when i got back from work.
now from what research i have done i have checked oil level(inbetween min and max)
checked for mayonaise type substance in oil filler cap which i cant see there to be any
the engine coolant was slightly below min so i topped it up.
only then did i start it up and there was no warning lights and idled fine so went for a drive to warm engine up to running temp and noticed the temp gauge rises and falls between 70 and 90 and when idling creeps up to just above 90 then falls back down to just below 90 when the fan kicks in, its also worth mentioning there is slightly more exhaust smoke than i would consider to be normal but not excessive by any means.
also battery was replaced in nov 2011,
water pump, thermostat, airflow meter and spark plugs replaced aug 2011.
maybe worth adding there was an advisory note on a service from august of a small leak on exhaust flexi which has not been addressed.
any help much appreciated please, want to nip this in the bud before its causes damage, thanks.
