Motor Control System Failure 147 Selespeed
I thought I was having a problem with my selespeed gearbox but it turns out it might not be that. I checked the selespeed oil etc (well a friend did) and all is good.
BUT now the MCSF warning comes on at engine start and the eng management light is always on (has been for ages now tbh).
Now for the first time ever the car won't start first time when cold in the morning and struggles to find the idle...almost as if automatic choke wasn't working. It either over-revs highly or struggles to get up to 500/600 rpm and eventually dies. When put in gear it struggles to get moving as if you weren't releasing enough clutch and once you are moving it's almost like driving on only 2 cylinders - lots of loud banging/popping/backfiring from engine, no power and for first 30 minutes or so of driving can hardly pull away from a halt or get up above 50.
I know I need to take it to an Alfa specialist to get diagnostics done but can't afford that until end of month so just trying to get an understanding...
I imagine it'll be either of 2 things
1 A fault with the ecu
2 A fault with the exhaust and lambda sensors
It's like the engine is choking itself to death and not being able to deliver power (hence all the backfiring etc.) but is there anything that can be done short term to keep it going until the end of the month or anything I can check/do to try and work out the exact problem before engine diagnostics?
Thanks for any help at all!!
