Tailgate alarm problem
Why do alarms usually go off at stupid o'clock in the morning? Mine decided to make its presence know about 4 weeks ago at 4am, outside in my boxers manically pressing the key fob only to have the blasted thing go off again and again, much to the annoyance/amusement of my neighbours! Resorted to putting some clothes on and then disconnecting the battery. Since then I've been locking it with the key and not setting the alarm to avoid it happening again.
Symtoms are no beep on locking or unlocking, indicators give one long flash then two short flashes on setting which indicates tailgate not shut.
Decided to have a look at it today, popped off the tailgate panel, re-connected the rear window washer feed pipe (which may have caused the problem? - although everything is dry) checked out the wiring into the tailgate behind the rubber flexy section (all ok) checked the boot light (all good) checked the functioning of the "rear hatch open" warning on the dash (working correctly) Disconnected the battery and left it for a while in the hope of resetting the alarm sysytem - no joy.
The locking mechanism seems to be a sealed unit, I'm wondering if it is worth replacing this (£20 on ebay) in the hope that this is where the problem is, is there any way of testing if this is where the fault lies?
