should i buy this 147?

Hello every1,

I'm from holland, and I have been looking for a new car (2nd hand) for some time now.

I have always liked the alfa 147 and I just saw one:

Alfa Romeo 147 2.0i Veloce Distinctive 150 Hp
great interior, some nice extra's like sport seats (heated) and sport exhaust. But those are only minor things.
The car is build in march 2001 and has been driven for 153000 km

its pricing is also very good, but i cant decide could any1 help?
isnt 153000 km's a lot?

tnx in advance

Re: should i buy this 147?

Hmmm that is quite high mileage. Due you know if it's mostly motorway or equivalent? What's the condition of the body work, ie too many chips on the bonnet might mean its been thrashed on high speed roads. Has it been serviced regularly?

Well those are some question which springs to my mind. Then it's all about the price you can get it for. Do some internet research to compare prices and see how much of a bargain you are really getting.

Re: should i buy this 147?

first of all tnx for your reply,

the body work is in good shape (no chips/scratches on the bonnet), and motor also looks fine (had a chance to get a goot look at the engine no signs of oil leaks around the plugs, small parts like drivebelt etc looked also in good shape).
I have done some research and found that the price of 9950 is compareable with most of the alfa 147's (veloce distinctive) on sale
here in the Netherlands.
I really really like the car, but i just have my worries concerning the
mileage. most alfa's that suite my budet have about 150.000 km's
how much beating can those engines have anyway?

153000 km is a lot. And 9950 is a lot aswell with that milage.

I checked on and a 2.0 TS Dist. with 91000 km is on sale for 10950 and a 108000 km for 11950. Both from 2001. They are Selespeed, but from small experience i can say, NICE

Ok, Milano has no waranty policy, but prices are crisp.

I bought my 2000 Selespeed at 58000 km there last feb. for 11950 and it is great. My dealer checked it over within a week and no problems. Some advice: check the service booklet or call the dealer where it was serviced. I did, and they could tell me the history from 0- 58000 km.
If in doubt, don't buy. And reserve the saving for any future problems!!!

I agree it's a matter of luck, but worth to be checked out.

Good luck.

153,000 km is no problem for the engine, but if you start at this mileage your resale value in a couple of years will be a problem (unless you are hardly going to drive with her).
