156 V6 died and won't start.. Electrical Issue?
It's the start of winter here in New Zealand and we're having the first frosts for the season and I don't think my 1998 156 V6 is coping with them too well.
Yesterday morning (maybe -1°) while driving to work, I had head lights, spot lights, heater, demister and radio on. Suddenly my ABS warning light comes on along with the one in the bottom right that's something to do with the air bag maybe? and then my handbrake light. My radio then starts skipping and my spot lights turn off. I turn the heater off and the radio comes back on and the warning lights turn off. I drive a couple km's more with no heater, lights or radio on and just before I get to work the abs light comes back on.
Day goes by and when I leave work it's maybe 2°. As soon as I start my car I get ABS, Air bag (?) and handbrake warning light. I get maybe 500m from work and all electrics cut out and revs drop to well below idle. Jam on my hazard lights but it sounds like they are just they cant get enough juice and are strobe-ing. I manage to roll to a park and watch my tacho and fuel gauges drop completely out then flick back on. Turn my car off and try to start it again but it's completely dead.
Is this a battery issue? It's been a bit sluggish with turning over lately and there was one time a couple of weeks ago where it would turn over but not start for a day or so.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated,
Thanks in advance.
