Engine keeps cutting out. And now ABS alarm!!
The engine keeps cutting out on my 1.9 Mjet. The dashboard instruments stop working, the clock stops, the interior lights won't work, nor the central locking, the radio goes dead, some of the warning lights on the central check panel don't show, the windows and the hazard lights won't work. But the engine will crank on the starter motor, the low fuel and high temperature warning lights come on (even though neither condition exists) and the speedometer needle sweeps round the way it does when you have a dead battery. Sometimes the P0685 error message comes up as well. After a few minutes the engine will start again, and then stop soon after.
I assumed this was an earth fault as so many electrical devices stopped working, so to try to identify which earth I tried disconnecting various earths to see which would replicate the symptoms. Neither of the ones I tried did, but now I have ABS and VDC failure alarms up, and I can't clear them either with an ECU reset (powered off for more than one hour) or using Alfa Diag with one of Rarebear's CAN bus leads. I have checked both fuses for the ABS and they are all right.
Any ideas anyone please?
