Help Gutless 2.4 JTD

I've recently bought a 2001 2.4 Sportwagon with just over 20k on the clock. Driving back from Cornwall yesterday, it started misbehaving when pulling away. To get the thing moving at anything other than a snails pace, I have to get the revs up to about 2.5k and then pull off. Anything much lower than this and the revs drop.

Whilst driving, it appears that unless the turbo's actually doing something, 'foot to the floor' has very little effect. It's almost as though the fuel is dribbling into the cylinders at its own rate no matter what I do to the accelerator. Once I hit about 2.5k revs it's perfectly OK.

Does anyone have any ideas? I tried a search on here, but with no success.

Could it be a duff MAF?

Try to PM AlfaNige. He knows everything! He will also gladly sell you a ECU remap! Well worth it on the JTD. My 2.4 has been remapped and its a missile!

You may need to catch him over on forum.

1 easy test you can do yourself is unplug the airflow sensor,
its on the side of your airbox 3/4 of the way down.
if the performance improves, then the sensors at fault, although
with 20k on the clock does seems a little early, but then its still
nearly 4 years old.

Re: Gutless 2.4 JTD

Sounds like a leak in the air intake plumbing to me, I once had a similar experience with a Peugeot where one of the pipes had become disconnected, and I think you mean EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation). EGR is a valve that recirculates a proportion of the exhaust through the engine to reduce combustion temperatures and hence nitrous oxide emissions. A faulty EGR valve would increase emissions but not have a major effect on performance.
