Hi Folks, my first post! But not my first alfa
Hoping somebody on here can help me. I know this is a common problem with these cars but this has me completely stumped.
I'm not a qualified mechanic but I'd consider myself a competent DIY'er. I just can't get to the bottom of it...so here goes:
The car is a 99 2.0TS with the CF2 engine.
Bought a 00 with good engine and crap body work.
Then found a nice 99 with NCT, Tax and a knackered engine.
Did an engine swap myself..
As the title says...low power up to 3k. Then the variator kicks in and then goes like stink all the way up the rev range to redline.
MAF - Changed - I've 5 of them and the issue is not the MAF. The problem is at the lower rev range not the upper range.
Not the air intake pipe as I've made it air-tight - anyway no hesitation or pinking under acceleration
New Bosch Lambda - So it's not the lambda
ECU and throttle resets done a dozen times.
Replaced the thermostat and temp sensor too..no issues there..
Replaced both throttle and potentiometre. Doesn't hunt and is idling at the recommended 840 to 860 rev range after a few minutes of ticking over...1100 revs on start-up but thats normal afaik..
All new NGK Iridium sparks, new oil and filter
I know the variator is worn - 'diesel noise' at start-up for a few seconds - not sure it would cause the flat-spot though..Can't find any definitive answer on that ..
Had the car plugged-in and showing no faults.
Odd thing is the old plugs looked like they were running lean....this is quite likely the problem but can't figure why..although it's drinking petrol like an elephant sucking water out of a puddle...
Doubt there is any air leaks as she goes like stink after 3K revs
Belt was done at 98K. There's around 122K up now. I don't think the timing is out but I could be wrong...she idles perfectly and there is no misfire whatsoever..
Any suggestions or anyone in the Waterford area who could help me?
