I have a 147 1.9 JTD (04 plate) and have had troubles with the electrics.
About a week ago the ASR, ABS and EBD warning lights beeped and flashed when I turned it on, then they went out. But soon they started flashing at random times on the road (usually when braking and when I did brake there was a surge in power from the heaters!?).
I got the AA ouit yesterday and there was no fault code from their reader, but the guy suggested it may be a wheel sensor.
Today, things got worse as I got the Motor Control Failure light when starting (which stays on) and the engine cuts out at times. If I have to reverse from starting point, it cuts out when I put it into reverse. Usually takes a couple of goes before I can drive off. It has also cut out whilst driving along (always when moving slowly) and all the dials tend to die just prior to the engine cutting out. It always starts again though.
I had this problem around 6-8 months ago and it turned out (according to the local garage I used) that it was a problem with the canbus sytem itself. They spent £250+ on labour finding a fault in the canbus and then were able to stop the problem (they weren't more specific in their description). Now this probem has returned. Does anyone know what it might be before I have to take it to a garage again for expensive diagnostics?
The battery is fairly new (2 years?) so I dont think it is that.
Finally, I should say that my mechanical skills are basic so be gentle with me!
