Temperature reading on 156 jtdm 16v

Hi guys, it seems that the thermostat is a common failure on a 156
Can anyone tell me roughly where the temp gauge should read on a 156jtdm 16v, mine reads between 50 and 90, approx 70, i would say, would this be normal?

Yeah you are right dubburke. The thermostat fails in the open position... It is easy enough to change also when doing its job the gauge should be up around 90 but apparently the gauges in the 156 are not the most accurate...mine reads circa 70-75 however, FiatECUscan shows a much healthier 85-90 degrees C. I also use the Torque app on my phone via bluetooth adaptor and that seems to indicate the temp accurately.

Agreed, these gauges are not accurate, mine sits in the exact same position between 50 and 90, but the temp on FiatECUscan is correct as stated above. Yours should be fine. If however it doesn't get up to or much above 50, then thermostat is the first port of call.
