Had my old 2002 10v since last September. Bought her for a fair price at 800 quid and in all honesty she goes like a train.
She has 156k on the clock (very apt) and does 2 -400 miles every week without missing a beat and even with my lead foot she returns 41mpg's.
She has a strange fault, in that when I accelerate hard in the higher gears the engine management light comes on and cuts the turbo (at least thats what it feels like).
If I easy off the gas a little the light goes off again and power is restored, sometimes in seconds, sometimes a few mins, depending how hard I was accelerating and how quick I notice the light.
In second and third there is no problem, 4500rpm quick as you like without issue. In third if I get to 3000ish too quick on comes the light, and in forth and fifth booting her to just 2500rpm kicks in the engine light.
If I accelerate gently in any gear there is no problem at all, not had her above a ton but she cruises all day long at that speed with out fault.
Stood still (out of gear) again no problem, so I am speculating that it is something to do with rapid intake of cold air?
At first I thought it was the thermostat as I bought it with a stuck open one, replaced that, no change.
Then I though it was due to my air filter housing box having a fist sized hole in the bottom and my airfilter being, well, a mess. New box and filter fitted, still no change.
A small local garage had it on 'there little black box' but as the light was not on at that time it didn't return any errors.
I'm wondering is it likely to be the mass air meter maybe?
Or am I going to have to bite the bullet and go to my local Alfa garage and max out my card
Any advice would be great as this is starting to drive me crazy now, especially if I need to overtake!
