Bella had a decent run out this weekend - i've done 30k in the last 12 months, but only 250 in the last 7 weeks or so. Anyway, I battered my way through 1200 miles this weekend - and Bella is still (once again
) in one piece. However, some random weirdness has occurred which some of you may have experienced....
1. 300 miles - ferry - 300 miles. On both legs of my journey, when starting the car up to leave the ferry (so 4 hours driving, 2 hours sat on the boat) the central locking button flashes red for a few minutes.
2. At the 200 or so mile point of each part of the drive, my eternal airbag light goes OFF (!??!).
3. Weird idle - normally, she idles fine, but i noticed when arriving at the port both times that she idles at her normal, warm 900ish rpm, but every so often the sound of her ticking over drops, becomes rough sounding with some vibration then returns to normal. It lasts for no more than a second or two, and when she does it the rev needle doesn't drop at all. It's happening every minute or so, but it was so random i was unable to catch it on film because i'd turn the camera on and nothing would happen for several minutes until i turn the camera off of course!
4. She smells!! The smell has been there for a while, but i guess i've got to the point where i don't really notice it - someone pointed it out at the weekend when they got in.
The smell hits when the engine is warm, a/c on or off doesn't matter. It's a strange smell to describe... kind of like new gearbox oil (defo not rank old gearbox oil) or something. It reminds me of stepping into my grandads greenhouse when i was a kid.
From a maintenance point of view - all fluids are checked and good, and relatively new. I've got 10k miles/26 months left on my cambelt.
cheers for reading!
