Having just bought a rather neglected GT where servicing consisted of washing and filling with fuel. I was not surprised today when I 'properly' jacked up the car, to clean off rust and repaint large areas of the floor pan, that the jacking points were in tact, but the sill areas dented and on the passenger side badly with loose underseal and rust beneath and two sizable dents. The rear jacking points where the lip is, was also mangled, so I can only assume that on the very rare occasion that the numpty who owned my car before, did go near a garage, he must have gone to a relative or someone who usually worked on tractors!!!!
Having owned 50 cars and being 50 I have seen all manner of damage done by garages lifting and towing vehicles badly, but I have to say as a relatively experienced hobby mechanic, I do have a really good look before I jack any car up and think about it for a few seconds, I only wish paid mechanics would do the same !!! Having had a fibreglass scimitar GTE I was very keen, if I ever took it anywhere to be raised in the air i was there to ensure they used the right places to jack it up.
I too will be repairing my sills as all dented they are noticable if only by me lol
