Don't let a Volvo dealer do your cambelt change!
Hello. Bought my 2.0 gt jts about 3 weeks or so ago and had/having a few problems. Car is in mint condition proper full service history but needed second cam belt change as coming up to 6 years old. Anyway, garage I bought it from did this as they told me they do cambelt changes all the time with Volvo and was straight forward etc... few weeks later noticing a lumpy idle, performance dropping, MPG low and using lots of oil. Took it into my local Alfa mechanic for him to take a look over as a little worried. Long story short, tip ex on cam area showing it wasn't done properly and said was not good at all, making a awful noise and oil in spark plug holes and something leaking and needed sorting out including variator change. There wasn't even a cover on the cambelt and he said this was quite dangerous as if I got a stone in it..... also dust and muck going in etc. £600 to repair and also £180 for worn/play in n/s ball joint to be replaced and tracked up. Does this price sound reasonable. Fortunately spoke to manager of garage where I bought it from and they are sending me £650 to cover it.
