went out to my car yesterday morning only to find it wont start due to lack of battery. it's not totally dead and tries to start, but the battery doesnt have enough power to even turn the engine over.
it started fine with a jump start, so i got it to work where i hooked up a battery charger and left it charging for a few hours.
it started and got me home fine yesterday afternoon, but this morning it's done the same and wont start.
there are a few electrical things i guess worth mentioning:
- ECU seems to think the temperature sensor is broken despite it being a brand new genuine part (I have another thread here: http://www.alfaowner.com/Forum/alfa-...-0-tspark.html
- the car was laid up not used for a couple of months about a month ago while it had an engine change, so i guess the battery was allowed to run totally flat, however until the last couple of days the battery has been fine and i had no problems starting even after a few days of no use.
- when doing the engine change the mechanic noted that the wiring loom was a mess and he reckoned had been tampered with or badly repaired?
- not sure if its just quirks of the car, or because of the above mentioned messed up wiring loom, but the headlights only work with the ignition on (you cant even get side lights without ignition) but the CD player is the opposite and switches on even without ignition, and stays on even after you switch off the ignition until you switch the headunit itself off
is some low level system draining my battery overnight, or is it the battery got messed up when the car was innactive but has waited til now to finally give up?
