Help MOT Emissions fail, any advise?

Had my first MOT test done on my 2002 147 1.6 (120hp 1) since owning the car for a trouble free year now and have failed on emissions.

Thought this might happen as when I recently took it to Topgear (Powerflow dealer) to get that nasty big rusty back box cut off the bloke said that the 3rd CAT (the main one after the 2 pre cats in the down pipe) had been cut out already for some reason.

Just had a full service, cam-belt etc change after hitting 47,000 miles and the mechanic (who specialises in alfa's) said it should pass with just the 2 pre cats.

Pre Service results were 0.59 and 0.39

After service etc 0.69 and 0.67!

Also think that although it idles much smoother now it seems slightly down on power over all since cam belt change etc (to be expected till I loosen everything up again?).

Anybody go any thoughts or experience running these without the centre CAT?
