it will be a generic map, i highly doubt someone is sitting at head office writing custom maps for every customer in about an hour.
aslong as you can feel the difference, job done
i bought my car mapped and put the standard back on, its much more linear.
mapped its was slipping in high gears and the torque spike in around 1800 was brutal.
it was no doubt faster, but always felt like it wanted to constantly go, change gear then go again, change gear etc.
much prefer stock.
fuel computer seems much more realistic now too, mapped i was getting 47 round town! apperently. now im gettting 39 which seems about right.
Well the following information is from their website:
"A generic file is based on standard settings for a specific software version present in your vehicles ECU.
Some generic files are good, some are not so good and some are dangerous, in some cases causing serious engine damage.
As the word Generic suggests the settings provided are generic*"One Size Fits All"
Even good generic files do not offer the same results as a custom remap, because they have to have "Happy Medium" settings, rather than custom settings
Generic is a cheaper option for people who cannot afford a full custom remap or believe all remaps are the same.
Due to the ever-increasing number of competitors using generic files to offer what appears to be a cheaper remap option, we now offer Generic remaps to provide a low cost option for anyone not wishing to opt for the benefits of a custom remap.
We have full control over the settings on a custom remap.
The settings on generic files are made to suit a wide range of vehicles with the same hardware and software numbers and as such are not programmed specific to your requirements.
Custom Written Files
Are a more expensive option but...
A Custom file is written on an individual basis and is specific to you.
It is based on your particular vehicle, driving style and power delivery preferences. In other words it is tailor made for you.
A good custom file will deliver better results than a generic file, and is based on your requirements, rather than non specific settings used in generic files.
You will find our prices extremely competitive and in many cases cheaper than others that can only offer generic files anyway.
Why have cotton, when you can have silk?"
Bold claims if all you are getting is a generic map. Furthermore, the technician asked me what I wanted to achieve from the remap, and told me that massive power increases, whilst possible have a proviso that side effects are inevitable, and that if applied (against their advice), I would need to sign a disclaimer exempting them from responsibility if subsequent damage occured.
Of course all remaps will be based on a generic map, you wouldn't want to start from scratch every time. But I am delighted with the results, and having driven the car in both forms of tune, can categorically state that it is better in every way for my driving style.
