Hi all, I'm hoping for some guidance from some knowledgeable people I know are out there!
I took my beloved 2002 (red!)147 for 6month service check to a local, non-specialist garage, all was fine but day later the dreaded "selespeed tansmission failure" light came on. It's still driveable but keeps popping into neutral sporadically (I drive mainly in city-mode, but it pops less often when using the paddles). I then just use the gear shift which puts it back into gear again.
The garage said they wouldn't have touched anything to do with the selespeed but it just seems most odd that I've never had any bother until day after they serviced it! It's only done 62,000.
The mechanic now says he's "looking into it" for me but thought I'd see if anyone had any clues? From the research so far, it looks like it could be actuator or accumulator but I'm unsure how to differentiate?
So my main queries:
1. Could the mechanic have caused the new fault or was it just bad timing? (If so, should he fix it at his expense not mine!)
2. Any suggestions as to how I can help his diagnosis? or likely cost!
3. Anyone know of an Alfa specialist in Brecon/Hereford/WelshEnglish Borders areas???
Any suggestions appreciated!
