Any advice with a few timing belt issues?
Just a few of questions regarding a belt change to a 156 2.0 twinny.
1. Is there a cheap method of fitting a new balance belt tensioner without buying a special tool. It's cost me enough already to replace everything (taking no chances here).
2. Any tricks to hold the exhaust pulley when unbolting it and torquing it back up? I have seen snippets of spanners bolted together but with no real detail. I was considering using industial sized cable ties to some part of the chassis.
3. Lastly, I seem to have had a heart stopping moment earlier. Somehow, I won't blame any distractions etc, because I should have known better, I have managed to move no. 1 piston off TDC with the belt off. I know, I'm an idiot. The good news is that it was moved only very slightly, less than 10 deg.
Incidentally, it was moved very slowly, and I moved it back to TDC (the other way, not through full rotation!) very, very gently indeed.
I'm now wondering how much damage may have been caused. I'm furious with myself as I've been uber careful with everything up until that Homer Simpson moment.
