Check for service history, receipts for cambelt changes, should be every 36k miles or 3 years, whichever is sooner, check for a diesel rattle on startup, it this is the case the variator is on it's way out. Check engine oil level as the TS engine uses oil, if it's low might indicate the previous owner's lack of care.
If you test drive it, check gearshift isn't stiff and the lever springs back to centre, keep an eye out for any knocking noises from the suspension going over bumps.
Electrical wise, make sure the airbag lights show when you turn the ignition on, and turn off once the car is started. Also check the odometer isn't flashing as this signifies a canbus error.
Check window operation and all the mirrors work, again same with the climate control and the low setting delivers cold air.
Basically anything else you can think of when looking at a potential new car
You'll find the 1.6 takes a lot of revving to get anywhere quick, but it's a great little engine.
