DIY cleaning of the EGR is a doddle. Just takes a bit of time and care.
I did mine on both the previous 159 and my GT. The 159 I have now will probably need doing soon, as soon as the low end power loss (esp in 2nd when pulling away from islands etc..) I will whip it out (madam...) and give it a clean, if the restrictor gasket isn't fitted I will add one.
Also did the same job on a mates Saab 9-3 1.9 Tid. Has 110K miles and was completely gunked up! When we saw how much was in there, and how stiff the spring was, we couldn't believe the car ran at all!
45 mins later, a boot around the block (loads of smoke to start with) then the car was transformed.
Anyone in the Sutton area wants the job doing, drop me a PM, am happy to help!
