Slight grinding/ crunching noise from steering wheel

Morning fellow Alfa people,

Im starting to get a strange sort of crunching noise from what sounds like the back of my steering wheel, any ideas???

The slightest bit of dirt/grit etc. can get between the steering wheel and cowling... Take the cowling off and clean the back of the steering wheel where it meets. Give it a quick spray of silicon lubricant and refit... Nothing major to worry about mate... I have had it before

I had a similar noise on a Bmw I was working on, although it sounded more like a creaking/barn door closing type noise low down in the steering column, it turned out to be a completely dried out ball joint on the drop link on the opposite N/S that resonated through the ARB.
