Warning 156 rear shockabsorber collapse

hello all
my son took his 1.8ts for MOT today but did not get as far as test garage
the o/s rear shock fell apart
the bottom support for the bottom of the spring resting on broke away from
the round metal strut body.
his car is x reg
would suggest having a good look at this part for corrosion.
could be nasty if it parts at speed

I remember Jeep recalling the cherokee for corrosion so bad on the disc that when you hit the brakes the friction part of the disc broke away form the hub...Rust can be a killer...

Yep, happened on the wife's 147, the spring caught a brand new tyres and locked the wheel. German Boge shock absorbers on closer inspection, the replacement Marelli ones were much better at a similar age.
