Alfa 147 1.6

147 1.6 TS water jacket

I tracked my coolant leak to the part of the engine where the pipe off the header tank goes into the engine block.

My question is though, this water jacket (I think thats what its called), is it just the gasket that goes, or do the split/crack etc, reason being that having spoken to Alfa the part is obselete, so I either need to repair it or track another one down from a scrappy.

Just to clarify it's not the water pump (replaced about 1mth ago), its not the header tank/rad/thermostat etc etc. Sniff test indicates its not the HG either. I've traced the leak, and it runs down the aircon pump, and the oil filter.

This Alfa does my fruit sometimes!

its called Oxidation....... drain the reservoir, open the connection, clean the aluminum surface with sandpaper, re-fit the pipe & tighten with a new jubilee clip.

Make sure that you use a relatively fine paper. 600 or even 1200 grit. It's only light sirface oxidation and you don't want to score the metal.
