147 TS 2001 automatic, dimming headlights

Hi there,

Newbie Juha here from Switzerland.
Bought a 2nd hand 147 automatic, year 2001.

I've got an annoying issue that when either I myself change gears or set the
"city" position so that the automatic takes over and changes gears that
the when the gear change takes place, the light dim considerably. So much
that people driving towards me flash their headlights or after overtaking,
the guy behind flashes his headlights.
Another thing is that if I also leave the car on idle, the light dim.

I've read other articles on this forum and done web search and suggestions are
to replace battery and/or replace alternator.
Does anyone know anything else I could check or should I call the road service dude
(which I think doesn't cost me anything through insurance) and have him check the
current levels?

Thanks for any tips/ideas!

check the voltage form the atlernator, it could be struggling to provide the current required for the robotic gear changes. Withh all lights & rear de-mister on a good alternator will supply approx 14volts.

If the battery is old you may want to change it too, as its coudl be drawing too much current form the alternator too.

Both the battery and alternator were tested and found in good condition.
Alternator gave 14.9 volts.
But not sure they actually measured it during the gear change when the problem occurs,
will need to make sure that happens.

So the problem/mystery remains. Could it be circuit breaker or a damage electric wire that's causing the lights dim when gear change takes place?

Any ideas/suggestions very welcome.
